About David McKamie, CEO of DATZ UST
David McKamie began his carrier as an inventory and loss prevention specialist back in 1988. After becoming the company’s youngest LP manager in their history, he left to begin his long-term carrier in Petroleum Equipment. He quickly put his background of Loss Prevention and Inventory control to work in the parts department of Fowler Equipment (the local petroleum equipment service provider).
In 1993 David challenged himself to understand more of the petroleum equipment industry by leaving his background of LP and became a field tech for Fowler Equipment. During the next four years, David became a licensed tank installer, certified pump and dispenser technician, as well as, certified in testing of underground and above ground storage tank systems.
In 1997 David Joined the 25th largest C-Store operator in the US as their Environmental Director. Charged with bringing more than 200 locations into compliance with the 1998 regulations with less than a year to go, the task was daunting, but not one he would back down from. He quickly built his team, planned his strategy, and with the help of many others, managed achieving full company compliance one day shy of the deadline.
David continued his education over the next 10 years to include Cathodic Protection and fuel release prevention, as well as, investigation, remediation, and closure of more than 70 LUST sites per year. However, his dream of a family business was ever present and in 2008, David left to begin his next chapter.
DATZ UST Management was born. Over the next 10 years David developed software and compliance management tools to automate many aspects of asset management, compliance management, and testing of Underground Storage Tank (UST) Systems. Leaning on his background as an Operator has given him an inside edge to understanding the complex nature of UST Compliance. He simply sees it not from a contractor’s point of view, but the operator.
